Wu Dalang brought his brother home and introduced his wife Pan Jinlian. Pan tried to seduce the handsome Wu Song but Song did not fall for her. Later Wu Song left on official business and came back only to find his brother dead. Wu discovered that Pan Jinlian had committed adultery with Ximen Qing and they murdered his brother with poison. He confronted his sister-in-law and her lover and killed them. Then, he went to the county office to surrender himself and was exiled to Mengzhou where met Shi En. Shi treated Wu Song well and Wu Song decided to repay Shi’s kindness. Wu Song confronted Jiang-the-Doorgod, a hooligan who took over Shi En’s restaurant after beating him up. Jiang was furious after being beaten up and he ganged up with Governor Zhang to frame Wu Song. Wu Song was charged with theft and exiled again. The guards escorting him were bribed to finish him off. However, Wu Song had sensed the plot earlier and went back to Mengzhou and killed Governor Zhang and Jiang-the-Doorgod. Before fleeing from Mengzhou, Zhang Qing and Sun Erniang help to disguise him as a wandering Buddhist pilgrim to aid his escape. Wu Song went to Erlong Mountain to join Lu Zhishen, and later joined the heroes band after the battle of Qingzhou. He became one of the leaders of the heroes band. Wu Song followed the heroes band on their campaigns against the Imperial Army, Liao Tartars and southern rebels, making great contributions.

The story, spanning over 70 years, tells the story of Kublai Khan and the events leading to the founding of the Mongol-led Yuan Dynasty in China. Kublai was born in 1215 as a son of Tolui, the fourth son of Genghis Khan. At that time, Töregene, the wife of Ögedei (Tolui’s third brother), sees Tolui as a threat to her. As Tolui gains more glory for his victories in battle, Töregene becomes worried whether her husband Ögedei will be selected by his father Genghis Khan as his successor. Besides, the young Kublai is deeply favoured by his grandfather, and this causes Töregene to feel uneasy.

Ögedei eventually becomes the new Khan of the Mongol Empire and Tolui is chosen to be regent. Töregene secretly poisoned Tolui to death. Tolui’s sons, with their eldest brother Möngke as their leader, want to avenge their father. Töregene then accuses Möngke and his brothers of plotting a rebellion and wants to use the opportunity to eliminate Tolui’s entire clan. At this critical point, Kublai and his mother Sorghaghtani manage to calm everyone down. Kublai and his family escape from Töregene’s control and gradually build up their forces.

Töregene later conjures a scheme and causes Ögedei’s death, after which her son Güyük becomes the new Khan. Güyük is succeeded by Möngke, who entrusts his younger brother Kublai with important responsibilities. A few years later, after Möngke is killed in battle, Kublai and his brother Ariq Böke engage in a power struggle to seize the succession, which concludes with victory for Kublai. Kublai finally secures his position as Khan after defeating all his rivals, and he establishes the Yuan Dynasty in China.

Synopsis

In the middle of Ming dynasty, due to eunuchs’ arbitrary governance and harassment of Wokou pirates, the people could hardly survive. Yang Shu, a lay disciple of Shaolin Temple, swore to be brothers with Ma Qianqiu, general of secret imperial guard Jinyiwei, and Zhu Chenjun son of prince. After a life and death, the trio work together and eventually toppled the mighty evil eunuch “Nine Thousand Years” with resourcefulness and force, to restore the order of the ruling. Subsequently, Yang Shu with a group of Shaolin monk soldiers accompanying with the army went south to fight against Wokou pirates. Yang Shu, courageous and prudent, defeated the pirates tricks. However, his sworn brothers Zhu Chenjun was driven by the ambition of the usurper, colluded with pirates, selling out the country. Yang Shu and Ma Qianqiu experienced the pain of being used and to hunt down each other. Ultimately when the truth was discovered, the brothers joined forces to prevent the conspiracy Zhu Chenjun and pirates. Yang Shu was appointed Jinghai general, obtained the victory of fighting Wokou pirates, revived the prestige of coastal defense and protected the peace of the people.
